After a long night out which included a boozy birthday dinner at Lyon Hall, shots of Jameson and a bluegrass band at Whitlows, and a high school reunion at Rira, baby girl just needed a day of rest. I let her sleep, and tried to find ways to entertain myself. What exactly did I do before my best friend moved in with me? So I went down to Safeway and I inventoried the house. I had to cook something she could stomach, and I wanted to do more with my new bread machine. The result? Bread machine “sourdough” and roasted tomato and red pepper soup. I modified my favorite tomato soup recipe by roasting two red peppers alongside it to give it a new twist. The bread? I followed this recipe here. Um, yum. I’ve since baked two more loaves of this bread and gifted one to a friend. He promised he would eat a ham and swiss sandwich on it, alongside a cold beer. I hope my bread has fulfilled this most promising of prophecies.
